The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration.
It is available in two versions:
Academic: For students pursuing higher education in overseas destinations.
General: For those migrating for Immigration (Permanent Residency)
IELTS is a paper-based exam where each section and the overall score is given out of 9 bands.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL as it is better known, is a standardized English proficiency test to measure the English capabilities of a non-native speaker of English.
The TOEFL scores are accepted by a suite of universities around the world and is also a medium for screening job seekers and immigrations applicants to English speaking destinations the world over.
The TOEFL exam is structured and designed to test the proficiency of an applicant in the four skills of the English language – Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
The TOEFL test has three Variants
1. PBT – Paper based test – The TOEFL paper-based test is taken by students where the possibility of taken a computer-based test is limited or not available. A very small percentage of people opt for the Paper based test.
2. CBT- Computer based test – The TOEFL computer-based test was the upgraded version of the TOEFL test from the paper-based system. This was replaced by the latest version the TOEFL IBT and is no longer valid.
3. IBT – Internet based test. – The TOEFL internet basted test is the latest version of the TOEFL test and has completely replaced the computer-based test in 2005.
GRE: Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for most Graduate Schools in the United States. It is required for admissions to masters and doctoral degree programs in various universities.
GRE aims to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of learning.
Validity: The validity is 5 years.
Registration: GRE need to be registered well in advance as walk-in GRE registration at test centres is unacceptable. The GRE is administered by ETS and given at Prometric testing centres.
Content of GRE: There are three GRE sections: Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical Writing. The GRE tests college-level vocabulary and verbal reasoning; basic math concepts in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry; along with writing and analytical skills. The entire duration of the exam is 3 hours and 45 minutes.
GMAT : Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is a standardized test that most business school applicants need to take in order to join credited MBA and a few other courses. While other factors also may be included (college grades, transcripts, essays, resume, work experience, and interview). It is important perform well on the GMAT exam if you aspire to get into a competitive business school. Taking the GMAT exam opens your gateway to various top-notch B-schools in the USA, Canada, Singapore, and many other countries including India.
The GMAT exam is a computer adaptive test. It has 4 sections – Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Integrated Reasoning, and Analytical Writing Analysis (AWA), duration is 3 hours 7 minutes
